How many baby bottles do you need?

How many baby bottles do you need? When you become a mother for the first time, it is quite natural to feel stressed. With a newborn at home, you might have many questions running through your mind.

Most of these questions would be related to breastfeeding and about feeding your baby. Any new activity that you do for your kid becomes an adventure in your life. You want to take second opinions on every single matter that concerns the health of your kid. Buying a baby bottle is one such.

Bottles?

What kind of bottles do I need

What kind of bottles do I need? How many times should I bottle-feed my baby? How many bottles would I need? What type of bottle should I buy? Which brand is the best?

These are some of the questions that may come to your mind when you decide to introduce bottle feeding to your baby.

Firstly, you should understand that bottles come in different materials – glass, plastic, silicone, etc. Today, most of the pediatricians ask parents to stay away from plastic bottles as they can result in choking and ear infections in newborn babies. Glass bottles are the widely preferred options today as there are no side effects associated with them.

Secondly, you should know the quantity that you have to feed your baby every time and the number of times that you feed him per day. This will decide the number of baby bottles that you would need.  Newborns up to 4 months would need a 4-ounce bottle. When your baby is in the age group of 4 to 6months, he will need an 8-ounce bottle. Babies that are 6months old or bigger would need a 12-ounce bottle. On an average, in the first year, a baby would need to be fed for about six times a day.

Amount of bottles needed?

You know how much you need to feed your baby and how many times you need to feed him per day. This will give you an idea about the number of bottles that you need. There are two theories about this concept. Some parents buy eight bottles so that they can use six per day and have two in stock to be carried outside during travel. These parents are the ones that are overtly organized and stressed about their baby’s hygiene. They want to use a new sterilized bottle every time.

Most of the parents invest in just about three bottles. They use two during the normal course of their baby’s schedule and have one to be carried outside. After every feed, they wash the bottle thoroughly with hot water and dry it so that it is ready to be used for the next feed, which is mostly around 3 or 4 hours later. Two bottles would suffice per day so that one can be used during the day and one can be used during the night without any hassles.

However, we would like to admit that there is no hard and fast rule regarding the number of bottles one should buy for her newborn. It is a personal choice which depends on budget and practical constraints as well.  Some invest in disposable bottles so that they can be discarded after every use.
